Cannabis herb is burnt during smoking, temperatures of approx. 500-700°C being reached during this process.
Vaporization of cannabis, on the other hand, involves the herbal material being heated to a minimum of 185°C, this being the temperature from which THC (tetrahydrocannabinol – the main active ingredient in cannabis) evaporates from the herbal material and blends with air (i.e. being transformed into an inhalable form).
The Merck Index lists the boiling point of delta 1 Tetrahydrocannabinol as 200° C (392° F) 365° F appears optimal for vaporizing.
You may want to try 365/370/375 to see which temp your vap works best with.
(Saying you due to the fact that you asked this question meaning your probably getting into it).

What is the ideal temperature for a box vaporizer?
What is the best temperature to get the maximum potency out of my herbs? Also, I have seem some people remove the tube from the box while taking a draw, and I have seen others simply leave the tube on the box while it’s burning. Which is best?
Answer by SombreHippie
I have a Vapor Daddy Deluxe. It doesn’t have exact temp settings, but goes from 1-10. I keep mine just a touch over 8. Any higher, and I find it starts to burn things. Any lower, and it doesn’t seem like much is happening. It took me a while to learn to make myself be patient letting it heat up first, ’cause I’d end up cranking it up and screwing things when it finally heated up.
I always leave the tube on. The point is to draw the heat through it to release the vapors, and you can’t really do that if it’s not near the element. It doesn’t extract much just being “near” the heat, without the heat moving through it.
It takes a bit of trial and error to figure out when it’s going properly and when it’s done. Keep an eye on the white vapors. It’s pretty much the only way to tell. If you’re lucky, your tube has a glass chamber at the end near the element, and you can watch the vapors gather and flow.
What to set my new vaporizer temperature to?
I got a Topoo Herbal & aromatherapy vaporizer VP-100 from amazon.com what temperatures would you recommend i set this thing to?
Answer by Kirk
Go on there website, anything that someone tells you on here could burn your bud and bud is not to be wasted!
But if you want my help I usually set mine around 384 (Farenheit i think that goes like 191 C) and it seems to do the trick.
You’re a lucky man; keep blazin!
Answer by Pytr Pytr
you bought one of the many cheap crappy knockoffs of The Original .
the most common problem is not being able to set it to a temperature that’s hot enough to vaporize but cool enough to not burn. The cheap vaporizers can’t seem to hold the right temperature during use.
note: the digital display isn’t very helpful because the heater can’t keep up the temp at the material regardless of what the display says.
but you try to find a temp that won’t char or smoke the material, but is hot enough to give big inhales.

What temperature do you use your vaporizer at?
When using cannabis, and also do you use your vaporizer for anything other than sativa.
Answer by Tessa W
I don’t know what specific temperature, but the trick is to get it so you’re getting a light, smoke-like mist when you exhale, but without burning the contents of the bowl. You should be able to exhale visibly, but the contents of the bowl should be close to the same color when you’re finished.
If you don’t see smoke, it’s too cold. If it’s turning black, it’s too hot.

What temperature should I set my vaporizer to smoke herbal incense such as k2/spice or anything with jwh-018?
The vaporizer is an Extreme Q if it makes any difference, but I really just want to know the best temperatures to set it to.
Answer by peetr
The extreme q has a few ways to use it, and proper vaporizing is dependent on air flow and temperature. Meaning that if you suck too slow the material you are vaporizing will get hotter, so the same temperature would burn the material whereas if you suck harder it will be cooler and vaporizer properly. You have to figure out how fast you like the air flow, and set the temperature accordingly.
The temperature gauge on the machine is often not really accurate, but once you know whether you are vaporizing, remember that setting, and adjust up or down depending on your preferred sucking speed. If you are burning the material then turn it down, or suck harder. If you don’t feel you are getting hits, then turn it up or suck slower.
Vaporizers with air pumps or fans like the Q have to be used in a similar way, you have to pay attention to how hard it’s blowing . getting the temp right with the bags can be harder than using the whip/hose.
I’ve vaporized a lot of different legal herbs, and some require hotter temperatures than others; I’m told spice requires a higher temp . I haven’t tried spice, and don’t plan to. Some studies are showing physical damage to the brain in “spice heads” and I’ve got enough problems without sections of brain dying. Seriously, dead zones and crap.
The other problem with liquids in the vaporizer, is that they often foul up the whip and the machine. At least you should have different whips for different materials.
I’m curious whether your vaporizer has a burning plastic smell like the ones we tested.

I never really had a lot of success vaping K2. I even tried vaping pure jwh-018, and wasn’t very impressed (very little vapor at any temp). I’d keep it out of the vape if I were you. But if you try it, I would start vaping at about 385 F, and go up from there until you see vapor.

Is it ok to vaporize at a higher temperature than necessary?
I have an I-Inahle which i have not used yet, that baby vaporizes at a 1 temp. setting of 375F
I am sticking to legal herbs thank you, namely i want to try out damiana, hops, and scullcap atm
i hear that hops vaporizes at a little over 300, would the i-inhale over do it or does it not matter if it is extra high?
basically: Does it matter in any way to vaporize plant matter at a higher temperature than is necessary?
Answer by Tsing S
the point of vaporization is to get the substance(s) u r most interested in to boiling point with as less as other substances in herbs as possible. otherwise, raising the temp would be no different than using a flame. cuz 1 degree or 1000 degree over the needed temp, it will only start burning stuff with higher boiling points while still boiling and to some extent quickly burning and wasting what u really want to vaporize

So let me see if I get this right, you plan on putting Damiana, Hops, and Scullcap in a dehumidifier?
Damiana is used as a general tonic for the nervous, hormonal, and reproductive systems. It has an ancient reputation as an aphrodisiac.
Hops Flavors, Bitters, and Preserves Beer; Promotes Appetite as well as sleep; Reduces Anxiety; recently research has looked at anti-cancer and anti-viral effects.
Scullcap is a powerful medicinal herb, it is used in alternative medicine as an anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, slightly astringent, emmenagogue, febrifuge, nervine, sedative and strong tonic.
By combining these items together and putting those into the air could cause some serious issues as well as legal issues, especially if you put them in the wrong doses and accidentally hurt someone with your blend.
My personal opinion in this does not matter much other then I personally would take serious notice and concern to your intentions.
