Has anyone tried Feliway Vaporizer? Would it help my cat feel less nervous about my new dog at home?
She is freaking out and running away or hissing and spitting. How will I get them to get along? My vet said to get Feliway Vaporizer which gives off pheromone smells and the cat will think the dog is just another cat! Or something like that. Should I venture and get it?

Your poor cat has had its quiet world turned upside-down with the addition of a new dog, so no matter how friendly the dog is, it may take time for the cat to feel comfortable again. My suggestion would be that you set aside one room (say, a spare bedroom) and designate it as “no dogs allowed”. Put a baby gate on the door, so the cat can enter and exit easily, but the dog cannot. Put the cat’s food and water dishes in the room, as well as a litterbox and a comfortable bed, and that may help the cat build a sense of security again. You can leave the door open all the time, so the cat is still part of the household.

Now that the cat is safely in one area where it doesn’t feel threatened, you can add a Feliway diffuser. No miracles are guaranteed. Some cats don’t react to it at all, yet others seem to be very soothed and calmed by it. One diffuser lasts about a month, so you’ll be able to tell if it’s worth replacing when it’s gone. If it turns your cat into a marshmallow, that’s great, but if you notice no difference at all, you can consider the experiment over. Feliway will not make the dog smell like a cat — it works as a mood-enhancer for the cat.

Cats and dogs can get along and be best buddies — I’ve got a cat who curls up and sleeps with my German shepherd and my terrier-mix. I’ve got a few other cats who avoid the dogs like the plague and still hiss at them today, five years after they were introduced. The temperaments of the individual animals will determine how they ultimately interact. I don’t know what kind of dog you have, but the sight of a cat running away can set off the prey instinct in some dogs, with tragic results. A dog can unintentionally kill a cat with just one grab-and-snap in a moment of excitement, so err on the side of caution with them until you know more about how their relationship is going to progress.

I’ve tried Feliway twice. The first time was when I brought my cat Marina home. It worked to help her and Velvet, my resident cat, get along better.

The second time I tried it was when I brought Tosca home. It did absolutely nothing to help Marina adjust to the new kitten.

When it works Feliway is wonderful but it really is hit and miss, even with the same cat. Considering how stressed your cat is, I would give it a try but be prepared for it not to work. And one Feliway will only work on I think it is 900 sq. ft. so you may need more than one if your house has any size to it.

Another thing you can try is bach rescue remedy. I haven’t tried it but I’ve read a lot of good things about it. Just type it into yahoo and you will find lots about it. You should be able to get it at your local health food store or online.

Does it help to cut down the mold in a room to add 1 tsp. bleach to a vaporizer?
My daughters room smelled musty. I ran a cool mist vaporizer with 1 tsp bleach per gallon of water to kill the musty smell. Does this do any good to kill any mold? I ran it for several days before she moved back into her room. Is this a waste of time?

Answer by kimmie
yes it’s a waste of time, you need to get rid of the mold period. scrub the walls with a bleach solution and repaint her room

Answer by MSC Lieu
You need to apply the bleach directly to the mold to kill it and even then, depending on the species of mold, may not kill it completely. You may need to have a professional take care of it for you. Check with your homeowners insurance, they may cover the cost of mold removal. If you’re renting, check with the rental office, it’ll be cheaper than paying medical bills from mold inhalation. Run your vaporizer a few times with just water outside or in an empty room to flush all of the bleach out of it before anyone stays in the room with it running. You don’t want to inhale vaporized bleach.

Answer by froggie
Probably a waste of time, and if anything potentially dangerous. You should not inhale bleach fumes. Try washing any fabrics in the room. You may need to clean or replace the carpet. Try a dehumidifier, as often humidity causes mustiness.

OMG I need to know if this is against policy, cops, lawyers, students HELP ASAP!?
The definition of smoking – the visible vapor and gases given off by a burning or smoldering substance, esp. the gray, brown, or blackish mixture of gases and suspended carbon particles resulting from the combustion of wood, peat, coal, or other organic matter.

Vaporizers heat herbs up to a point right before burning or smoldering, that’s why their more healthy. To get to a burn or smolder point, this is a set temperature the substance must reach, vaporizers will always be under that temperature as that’s there main function.

Assuming no hotel has a specific policy against vaporizing, rather a blanket no smoking policy, no charges or fines could be levied against a guest vaporizing legal herbs in a non-smoking hotel room.

Even if there is a smell (with vaps there isn’t really a smell), the act of vaporizing legal substances in hotels is not banned in any fashion nor can a smoking relation be made since the substance in question doesn’t reach burn or smoldering levels. Can you counter any of the points i’ve made?

I travel a lot and since vaporizer technology is still rather new, I doubt any hotels include them in the restrictions.
Snarky, any substance usually has to reach the burning or smoldering level to omit a smell, as such, anything lower than the aforementioned temperature points, will not omit much of a smell, if any as the combustion level has not been met in heating the herb.
The could try and charge me Snarky, I don’t think they would succeed without a specific vaporizer clause (they won’t have one) and the fact that I will have a legal herb with me at all times – just in case the legality of the herb smoked in question comes into play, for that, I will always have the legal herb as a back up and evidence that it could have been legal BAHAHA.

Answer by Dr. Snark
The distinction between burning and vaporizing is all very nice, but it exists only in your head. What matters is that you are converting a solid into a gas and that gas will go throughout the room. Whether there is a lot of particulate matter from burning, or mostly gaseous material from vaporizing, you’re still doing the same thing.

Besides, hotels don’t want you doing illegal drugs in their rooms.

ADD: Vaporizers do give off some smell, though not that much. It doesn’t matter how much the smell is though, hotels have no obligation to let you smoke pot and if you vaporize things in the room they can charge you extra cleaning fees for smoking in there.

Answer by peetr
I’ve never had an issue with hotel rooms, but I wasn’t throwing a party, or advertising my usage. If you have a good vap, then odor isn’t a huge problem and you won’t set off the smoke detectors(if they have them). I always get a smoking room when I can, because I like to patronize hotels that still have smoking rooms. And I smoke cigarettes too.

The legality isn’t really an issue, because they aren’t going to accept your vapor vs smoking argument anyway.

What herbs can be smoked or vaporized? That might actually help a person?
I know there is the obvious tobacco and marijuana that people use, but are there other herbs that can be smoked or vaporized that might actually help a person?

Answer by perfection
Anything that is smoked will cause damage anyway.

I hear lavender works. And I saw this lotion at bath and body works that has scents and herbs in it that make you happy.

Try doing things that will release endorphins in your brain. Caffeine. Also, exercise relases endorphins.

Not sure how you clean the steam vaporizer exactly! Can anyone please help me?
My Vaporizer is the hot steam one. It needs to be cleaned as I am getting a musty smell and the water is black/grey in the morning. The only problem is I am unsure where the pamplet is that it came with. I just not sure if you plug in the vaporizer and run the vinegar through it. I don’t want to ruin it so I am trying to learn the correct way to clean it! Thanks so Much!

Answer by sasenach
Run some dilute vinegar through it or purchase an anti calcium agent at a hardware store. E.G. CLR and read the directions.
